One of the adventure tour sites is boating upward on the Chay River into primitive forests, as the river becomes sinuous with several waterfalls and whirlpools until tourists arrive at Tro Mong. This tour sites have been surveyed and included in local travel agents besides cave exploration tour. In Phong Nha-Ke Bang park, there are is a 50 m-high waterfall, Chai Waterfall. There is a bull field called Ran Bo (Bull Field) because wild bulls usually comes and reproduce in mating season. There are also some interesting tourist attractions in this park like Nuoc Ngang (lit.: Horizontal Spring), a spring runs horizontally instead of vertically as usual; Ðá Nam (Crouching Stone), a stone blockading a stream current; Chân Thot (Chopping Board), a chopping-board-shaped stone. But above all, the most spectacular scene is this area is Nuoc Troi (Surfacing Stream), a stream surfacing from the ground. Several streams here run for a long distance, then disappear under the ground.[51]

Airplane

Currently, the closest service is via Vietnam Airlines to Dong Hoi, check their website for latest fares and flight times.

Train

Several arrivals and departures at Dong Hoi daily from as far away as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, only a few hours from Hue.

Bus

A local bus goes from Dong Hoi to Phong Nha for 40,000 VND. It departs at 14:00 from Nam Ly bus station. The bus back to Dong Hoi leaves Phong Nha at 8:00, so you have to either stay overnight or try to go back with one of the tour buses (they may even take you to Dong Hoi for free).

Motorbikes

Motorbikes can be rented for 150,000 VND from hotels in Dong Hoi. It takes about 1 hour via a highway that has little traffic: the Phong Nha cave is about 45 km from Dong Hoi and the Thien Duong (Paradise) Cave is about 70 km from Don Hoi.

Located 50 km northwest of Dong Hoi, Phong Nha-Ke Bang is an over 200,000 hectares of parkland includes beautiful limestone formations, grottoes and caves as well as lush forestland covering 95 percent of the park area. In addition to the diversity in the ecosystem, Phong Nha-Ke Bang is home to archeological and historical relics such as an ancient hieroglyphic script of the Cham ethnic minority, Xuan Son ferry station, Ho Chi Minh Trail and Road 20 used during the US resistance war.

The best time to visit Phong Nha Caves is the dry season, between February and April when the weather is cool and there is no flooding.

Travelers should check carefully the weather in this area during November and December before travel as during this period, the river is prone to flooding; the underground cave may be close. Though it’s possible, but also may be dangerous to visit the dry cave.
